The Power of a Trigger
It’s super hot today. I woke up early, but it was still too hot to wait too long to take the pug for a walk. So instead of writing right after I fed her, which is what I usually do, I took her for a walk and said I’d write later.
If Steven Pressfield were here, he’d say Resistance had won again.
And I worried it had. After walking her, I then did my classwork before it got too hot to be in the office with all the computers turned off.
Then I worked on these templates that needed finishing and that have to be done on the desktop.
I have a laptop, but only the one right now, and it’s fifteen years old. Pages runs on it. That’s about it.
It works brilliantly as a drafting computer. I can’t surf the internet. If I want to look something up, I have to get up and use the desktop or use my phone.
I can work on my laptop anywhere else in the house. So I did my must-be-done-in-the-office stuff until it got too hot to do anymore.
But then it was really hot.
It was only about 2pm by then. I had lunch. Watched YouTube. I looked at the clock wondering if I’d get my writing done, because, really, it’s only going to get hotter.
But then 4pm rolled around.
Four o’clock is when I feed the pug.
I went downstairs, hooked up her. And then I walked back upstairs, grabbed my laptop, my earplugs, my phone, sat on my bed, and typed up 250+ words. That’s my minimum.
But that was also my trigger. At work. I’m so pleased that I’m bearing the heat to rave about it.
It sure does help to have the same trigger twice in one day.
Thank you for reading!
I hope this helped you, and I hope your writing goes well this week.
Keep at it,
Megan
