September 2023
Hello!
Long time no chat. I've been full-tilt busy with getting a project out into the world (more below), so WWT has been hanging out in the back seat. But I just got an email from Jill Chamberlain's newsletter that she's doing a free class, and so I thought I'd pass it along and use the opportunity to catch up with you.
The Nutshell Technique
If you don't know, Jill Chamberlain wrote the book The Nutshell Technique, which I found very helpful for troubleshooting and streamlining plot. I've never taken a class from her, free or paid, but she's offering a free class on September 30th. I signed up. (She has no idea I'm telling you. There's no kickback for me. I just love a free writing class.) Anyway, if you're interested, here's a link to the newsletter where you can sign up too: https://us13.campaign-archive.com/?e=33e81873ca&u=5a8f83c7003abbd157a4ddb70&id=e19adab126
I'm Moving to Substack...
This newsletter is about to have enough subscribers that I won't be able to use the free version anymore, and I don't use it nearly enough to warrant paying for it, so I'm going to migrate us all to Substack. I don't have a date yet, but I'm telling you all, so I guess I should do it soon. I'll try to figure out how to do it within the week. So if you'd like to keep receiving the (admittedly infrequent) WWT Newsletter, be sure to watch out for an email from writeswithtools@substack.com. Check your spam. And if you really want to make sure you're subscribed, you can head over there now. It'swriteswithtools.substack.com.
I'm finding that I like the back end of substack much better than mailchimp, so it could mean more newsletters more often. No promises. But it's a definite possibility.
Anyway, right now the substack page is empty, but I'll try to move over the (admittedly limited) WWT newsletter archive and have it all looking more presentable by next Wednesday. Goals.
New Posts
I haven't forgotten about scenes! I'll get back to them. But right now I'm working on a new project, and I want to reacquaint myself with rhythm and sequences, and so I'm thinking I'll do the Fifty Shades of Grey Rhythm post. I'll send a newsletter when it's done, so look out for that. It will be after we migrate to substack, most definitely. I haven't started the post yet; it's just something on my near-term to-do list.
My Book
WWT is about writing craft, not about me or my books, but if you'd like to know about my book that came out last week, send me an email at writeswithtools@gmail.com and I'll send you the info.
And that's it for me!
Thank you for reading WWT. I hope your writing's going well.
Keep at it,
Megan
